Supporting Virtual Reality Assessments with City of Wolverhampton College

Ascentis are delighted to support City of Wolverhampton College with an exciting project exploring formative assessment using VR (Virtual Reality).

We will be supporting the WAM (Wolverhampton College Assessment Methodology) project by providing Virtual Reality headsets for their hard-to-reach disadvantaged ESOL learners for them to develop digital skills and to support interactivity with formative assessment which will enable learners to progress onto summative assessments.

This project is a mechanism to enhance learning using a low-tech method of assessment which will support disadvantaged students.  It can help to break down those technological barriers some students face and ultimately boost engagement.

The project will provide the following benefits:

For Students and Apprentices:

  • Experience real-life scenarios
  • Personalised learning to suit learning needs
  • Enable students from disadvantaged backgrounds to have access to high quality resources using low-cost tech resources.

For Staff:

  • To be able to create VR resources with little or no technical knowledge
  • To develop a new way of assessing, which will increase engagement
  • Develop better collaboration between subject specialists across the organisation and sector.

We look forward to supporting this exciting project!
