Qualification Overview

The Ascentis Level 1 Award and Certificate in Introduction to Health and Social Care offers opportunities for learners to explore and develop knowledge about the health and social care sector to help them decide whether working in the sector is the right choice for them. The qualification’s comprehensive coverage of the roles within health and social care allows learners to make decisions with confidence around their first steps in a learning pathway working towards their chosen career.

Learners can progress onto an extensive range of Level 1 and 2 qualifications in early years and health and social care.

There are several features of these qualifications that make them very appropriate for their target learners:

  • Unit certification is available for each of the units
  • Verification and certification can be offered throughout the year, allowing maximum flexibility
    for centres
  • They can be delivered either as classroom-based courses or as a blended learning programme
  • Evidence can be generated within a wide range of organisational contexts, allowing the qualifications to
    meet the specific occupational requirements of learners

Aims

The aims of the qualification are to enable learners to:

  • Explore at an introductory level the many potential career pathways in health and social care
  • Develop a range of skills needed for working with children and assisting with their learning and
    development
  • Grow their basic understanding of the scope and breadth of roles in the care sector
  • Understand how to apply skills and use various activities to enable them to make decisions with
    confidence about their chosen career

Target Group

These qualification are aimed at learners who are interested in or have recently embarked on a career in health and social care. The optional units offered in the Certificate are useful for the personal development of anyone who intends to work in a caring role within the health and social care sector. Learners should be aged at least 14 to register for these qualifications. Learners are not required to be working in a health and social care setting.

Assessment

All units are internally assessed through the learner building up a portfolio of evidence that covers the relevant assessment criteria. They are internally assessed and verified by the centre and then externally verified by Ascentis.
