Colleges Week 2026: Creating Opportunities and Championing Learner Success

This week we are proudly supporting the AOC Colleges Week, with this year’s theme focusing on ‘Skills for all’.

At Ascentis, we understand the importance of providing innovative qualifications to colleges across the UK and around the world, creating life-changing opportunities for all through education. Every day, colleges equip people from all walks of life with the education, training, and skills they need to succeed. From young people starting out, to adults retraining, colleges open doors and create meaningful opportunities.

Ascentis has been delivering Access to Higher Education qualifications for over 50 years. As the first Access Validating Agency to offer Access to HE qualifications , we’re proud to have helped open doors for thousands of adult learners who may otherwise have been unable to pursue higher education. Since 1997, more than one million students have embarked on Access to Higher Education courses at colleges across the country, opening new opportunities for further study and career progression.

Learner Success- Isobel Ritchie

Isobel Ritchie returned to learning through the Access to HE Diploma at Lancaster and Morecambe College where her confidence in education began to grow again. She studied the Access to HE Diploma from 2024 to 2025 following a three-year break from education. After two previous attempts to return to learning, the course proved to be a turning point, sparking a passion for Psychology and inspiring her to pursue a future career in this field.

The course allowed Isobel to build a strong foundation of academic skills and confidence offering a clear supported route into university.

The course is challenging, and it does require commitment, but it’s also one of the most rewarding things I’ve done. You’re given so much support, and the tutors genuinely want to see you succeed. If you’re willing to put the effort in, you’ll come out of it not just with qualifications but with real confidence and skills you’ll carry forward.

A year ago, I never imagined I’d be where I am now. I recommend the course, especially if you’ve struggled with traditional education or feel like you’ve fallen behind. This course reignited my love for learning and immeasurably boosted my confidence, but most importantly, it helped me move forward after feeling stuck for so long.”

It is inspiring to hear how colleges delivering Ascentis qualifications are supporting learners to develop their academic skills and confidence, while opening doors and creating opportunities for progression in their professional journeys.
