Keith Fletcher Memorial Awards

Keith Fletcher worked for many years in the South West of England as a great supporter and enthusiast of Access to HE. In memory of Keith’s commitment to Access to HE, AVAs across England and Wales developed an annual presentation ceremony in recognition of learners’ Outstanding Commitment to Study and Academic Achievement.

This year’s Keith Fletcher Memorial Awards ceremony took place at Westminster Palace, London on Wednesday 24th April 2019.

We would like to congratulate Kirsteen Turner-Jones who studied her AHED with Ascentis at EDAS in Poole.  Kirsteen won first prize within the Outstanding Commitment to Study Award category as she overcame great personal adversity to achieve her AHED and gain her place at university; she is a wonderful ambassador for the Ascentis Access to HE Diploma and for EDAS.

Bradford College

“We have been delighted with the impact Ascentis Extended Awards in Mathematical Skills (Stepping Stones) have had on our student’s progression towards their functional skills mathematics as well as preparing them for the completion of their GCSE. It has taught them the essential skills in mathematics which enabled them to deal with the practical problems and challenges of life – at home, in education and at work. These skills are valued by employers and further education, and are a platform on which to build other employability skills. We are also very impressed with the level of service and commitment shown by the staff of Ascentis, they are always available to help whenever help is needed.”

ESOL Quality Meeting Webinar

This is a free quality-focused event that Ascentis offers for all centres approved to deliver Ascentis ESOL. The event provides the opportunity to share best practice and centre concerns this academic year, and to receive updates on regulatory matters this year. We will also update you on adaptations for speaking and listening assessments that will be permitted for the rest of this academic year under the Extended ERF (EERF). Who can participate in the Quality Meeting? All approved Ascentis centres delivering Ascentis ESOL qualifications – centre co-ordinators, tutor/assessors, exams officers and those involved in the Internal Quality Assurance of these qualifications – are invited to attend. Who facilitates the Quality Meeting? It will be delivered by our experienced Lead ESOL External Quality Assurer (EQA), Ruth Simons. Ruth is a subject expert in the field of ESOL and also works in centres as an EQA so has a vast knowledge of Ascentis expectations and processes. Why attend? You will take away useful materials and information that will help with the delivery and assessment of these qualifications. Each delegate attending will receive a certificate of attendance which counts towards Continuing Professional Development. Feedback from previous delegates includes: • “Excellent understanding and supportive attitude towards centres” • “Fabulous support” • “Very informative” We very much hope you will take up this opportunity to join with our centres to participate in important quality assurance activities.
