Enhancing Your Delivery of Digital, Well-being and Sustainability Across The Curriculum
At Ascentis, our aim is to support learners in gaining the ‘Skills for the Future’. For us, this means achieving a qualification that equips learners to apply their knowledge and skills to the environment around them, whether that is in further learning or employment.
The government have released initiatives to improve digital literacy and provided significant investment in digital education (with the introduction of fully funded qualifications) to encourage lifelong learning and promote a positive impact on productivity in the workplace and continuation of education. Digital inclusion forms a large portion of the government’s view of ‘Skills for the Future’ and providing opportunities for digital engagement will enable learners to fully participate in modern life.
The Department for Education (DfE) has also explored the importance of mental health in schools and colleges. The research found that a robust approach to mental health and well-being in educational settings leads to improved pupil and student well-being, which, in turn, can improve learning. By supporting learners with their mental health and well-being, they become more productive and equipped with the skills to navigate an ever-changing career market and educational landscape.
Climate change has taken centre stage on the global political stage in recent years with COP27 meeting to discuss a vast range of environmental topics including the reduction in carbon emissions, renewable energy generation, and plans for a global mission for ‘clean’ growth. Prime Minster, Rishi Sunak stated that by planning for sustainability, ‘we can bequeath our children a greener planet and a more prosperous future.’ To do this, the Department for Education has developed a sustainability and climate change strategy to:
- help to tackle climate change
- create a better, greener world for future generations
This can be achieved by integrating ‘green’ principles and embedding environmental sustainability practices into the education sector.
Ascentis has enhanced our suite of Vocational and Technical qualifications by identifying three key areas where learners can make connections to embed their knowledge and awareness in the areas of Digital, Well-being and Sustainability.
We believe that by developing innovative units and enhancing our indicative content, we are providing a holistic approach to supporting learner progression. By providing opportunities for integrated solutions and enriching our qualifications, we will give our learners interesting and contemporary learning opportunities that will support progression and equip them with useful skills that can be used in everyday life and career progression. In addition, Ascentis has devised a unique range of free resources to support the delivery of digital, well-being and sustainability principles.
These resources have been developed in collaboration with subject experts and offer a range of activities, tips and guidance to embed ‘Skills for the Future’. These guides are FREE for all of our centres to access and use with their learners. The resources can be accessed online via Parnassus and can be completed on screen or paper-based to make them accessible for learners.
