Creating a Greener Curriculum

Green Qualifications

Ascentis are proud to offer a range of qualifications to support your Centres’ green initiatives and help learners understand the impact of issues such as climate change and plastic pollutants.

The UK aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. This means between 2022 and 2050, there will be a need to recruit around 400,000 energy jobs. This need would be across multiple areas including, digital, engineering and construction.

Short Online Qualifications

Perfect for induction programmes and learner enrichment, we offer a range of Short Online Qualifications which include:

Access to Higher Education

Access to HE supports those learners who wish to go onto higher education or progress in their employment. These qualifications offer learners the opportunity to reskill which is essential for job roles such as mechanics. This is because of technological advancements such as electric vehicles which are environmentally friendly. Studies suggest that by 2030 potentially 182,000 mechanics will need reskilling and 175,000 independent dealership employees will need retraining. Qualifications across all Levels can help learners re-skill and up-skill to meet these changing demands, Ascentis offer the following diploma titles:

  • Automotive Engineering
  • The Built Environment
  • Engineering Science
  • Environmental Science
  • Science

Resources

We provide a range of fantastic free resources including My Plastic Diary which can be used with learners to understand more about the use of plastics.

What are we doing at Ascentis?

Ascentis is becoming more sustainable by implementing new efficient ways to reduce our carbon footprint, below are a few examples:

  • We use local suppliers where possible. As well as supporting local businesses, this uses less transportation and consequently reduces carbon emission.
  • We encourage our employees to have flexible hours. This includes enabling employees to work from home, which reduces our carbon footprint.
  • We have an electric car charger fitted and the company car is a Hybrid. We plan to upgrade to a fully electric car in the future.
  • Our office lights are on sensors so if there is no movement, they turn off to save energy. These are LED to use less power.
  • We are working towards being paper-free. We have digitalised most of our paper documents and have even started a Plant a Tree initiative (explained below).
  • Zip Taps are installed in our office for instant hot and chilled water. This saves on energy used boiling kettles and running 24/7 water coolers.

Plant a Tree with Ascentis

Ascentis are pleased to be contributing towards this goal with our Plant A Tree initiative. When you book a meeting with one of our qualification experts, we’ll plant a tree on your behalf with the National Trust. When we plant a tree, it contributes to reducing emissions and creating new habitats for wildlife such as the red squirrel and the greater spotted woodpecker as well as many other birds and animals. We will also send a certificate for you to display at your Centre.
