New Qualifications for 2020-21
We’ve expanded our provision to add even more fantastic qualifications to our portfolio for 2020-21 and meet the changing needs of your learners. In addition, in recent months we’ve been adapting our existing provision to assist you with online and blended delivery. Below is what’s new.
Short Online Qualifications
Our Short Online Qualifications (SOQs) now cover 25 subjects with the new additions to the suite below:
Level 1 Award in Infection Control and Prevention – this qualification gives the learner an understanding of the causes and spread of infection. They will also learn about the importance of good personal hygiene, and recognise the responsibilities of the workplace in the prevention and control of infections.
Entry 3 Award in Healthy Living for Well-Being and Mental Health – this qualification gives learners knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of healthy living, including the importance of mental health, healthy eating and the principles of physical activity to support health.
Entry 3 and Level 1 Award in Introduction to an Inclusive Environment – designed to give learners an introduction to understanding the challenges to developing an inclusive environment, including how people feel marginalised when they are bullied or abused, how abuse takes lots of different forms and has negatives impacts for the victim and the abuser. In addition, they will learn how to conduct healthy, intimate relationships and recognise abusive ones, and how to support a victim of abuse.
Entry 3 Award in Introduction to Safeguarding – designed to give learners knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, including the meaning and basic principles of safeguarding, types of abuse and possible safeguarding issues caused by modern technology.
Level 1 Award in Understanding Safeguarding for Work, Education and Life – this qualification includes the different types of abuse and how to recognise them, possible safeguarding issues caused by modern technology, the meaning of discrimination and victimisation and the importance of disclosing safeguarding concerns to professionals.
*e-Assessments and e-Invigilation available now for all Short Online Qualifications, giving you and your learners extra flexibility.
*Glossaries and sample questions are now available to help your learners with any technical language within these qualifications and to succeed.

Progression to Further Learning and Work
Level 1 Award and Certificate in Introduction to Health and Social Care – offers opportunities for learners to explore and develop knowledge about the health and social care sector to help them decide whether working in the sector is the right choice for them. The qualification’s comprehensive coverage of the roles within health and social care allows learners to make decisions with confidence around their first steps in a learning pathway working towards their chosen career.
Entry 3 Award and Certificate, and Level 1 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Identity and Belonging in Modern Britain – these qualifications have been designed to help learners explore their identities and work towards understanding their own sense of belonging, in order to achieve a skill set that will enable them to operate independently and effectively in every part of work, education and life in modern Britain.
Entry 3 Award and Level 1 Award and Certificate in Personal Health and Relationships – these qualifications offer learners the opportunity to explore a wide range of different subject areas associated with health and relationships, and discover the associated skills, attributes, risks and benefits that enable these to be successful and rewarding. They provide the learner with the knowledge and skills to explore issues relating to the society in which they live and topics which may be relevant to their own lives.
Level 1 Award and Certificate in Introduction to Animal Care and Garden Horticulture – these qualifications offer learners the opportunity to acquire knowledge and understanding that underpin skills in the principles of animal care and garden horticulture. They provide links between education and employment through the development of academic, practical, and personal skills in work-related situations.
Level 1 Award and Certificate in Maintaining a Wheeled Vehicle – provides knowledge about vehicle care and maintenance, enabling learners to carry out vehicle care and maintenance checks, obtain specialist advice when appropriate and know the main controls of a vehicle.

Pre-Access
Level 2 Certificate and Diploma in Skills for Further Education and Employment – these qualifications are designed to help learners make an informed choice about a career in education and training, business and administration, law, applied science or health science. Learners will develop key vocational skills and study skills to progress to higher levels. Achievement of these qualifications could act as progression towards programmes of study at Level 2 or Level 3 such as an Apprenticeship programme or the Access to HE Diploma.

ESOL
Level 1 and 2 Award in Volunteering to Support English Language Teaching and Learning – these qualifications have been designed to provide the basic skills required to support teaching and learning of English as a second language in a wide range of contexts. Learners will be taught the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality in the classroom and how to address some of the challenges English language learners encounter. NATECLA guidance for volunteers was used as a basis in the development of these qualifications.
Entry 3 Award in Employment, Digital and Community Engagement for English Language Learners – this qualification enables learners to gain the practical and personal skills for work and further study, whilst improving their knowledge and use of the English language. It offers a flexible and broad range of topics which can be tailored to your learners’ needs. It allows learners to progress in the areas of employability, study skills, digital skills, and personal skills; ensuring they have the language skills for their next steps in study, work and life.

Construction
Level 1 Award and Certificate in Introduction to the Construction Environment – introduces learners to the construction industry to enable them to progress with further training and employment within their chosen areas. The Certificate also allows learners to develop their personal and employability skills to prepare them for employment in this sector.

Vocational
Level 2 Award in Infection Prevention and Control – designed for individuals working, either in a paid or voluntary capacity in roles, where they may be at risk of contracting or spreading infection. Knowledge of infection control is essential for all those working in hospital, nursing and care settings. It is also often now considered relevant for those working in other types of group settings where there may be a risk of infection spreading, such as prisons, schools and hostels. The programme gives learners a good understanding of the causes of infection and how these can be controlled in relevant settings, such as hospitals and care homes.
Entry 3 Award and Level 1 Award and Certificate in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry – introduces learners to the hospitality sector and gives them a practical introduction to the activities that hospitality and catering work involves.

Access to HE
Access to Higher Education Diploma in Automotive Engineering – this diploma is for learners wanting to go onto study at degree level and work in mechanical engineering and other automotive and engineering trades.
Access to Higher Education Diploma in Music Technology – this diploma is for learners wanting to work in the music industry and will provide them with the study skills to progress onto university to study music related subjects.

Essential Digital Skills
We are delighted that our Essential Digital Skills Qualifications (EDSQ) have passed Ofqual’s technical evaluation and are now available to Education Providers, to upskill the nation digitally.
These brand new qualifications, mapped to the National Standards, provide vital digital education to those with little to no digital skills.
Both our Entry 3 and Level 1 qualifications cover life and work skills in detail and can be delivered through classroom-based and blended learning.

English & Maths Online Assessments Now Available
Last month we launched classroom-based online assessments for our Level 1 English and Maths Skills qualifications. These assessments are conducted on an online platform in controlled conditions, giving your learners vital preparation for Functional Skills.
