Who is IDL?
The idea of IDL was first presented by educators working with the Starcross Educational Research Association in the middle of the 1980s. In 2012, SENCO leaders and the Big Lottery-funded "Lifting Barriers" programme collaborated to advance the development of IDL for use in educational settings.
IDL was introduced in 120 elementary and senior schools in the Northwest during a three-year period. The main aims of the study were to show that students with dyslexia or dyslexic-like issues might improve their spelling and reading skills as well as their self-confidence and self-esteem.
With only 26 hours of usage, the results showed an average improvement in reading and spelling age of 11 months.
